Contact Lens Abstract
This invention pertains to a soft contact lens that has a body with a central zone aligned with the optical axis of the eye when a wearer wears the lens. A micro-channel filled with fluid, is positioned at or near the optic zone and is arranged so that when the fluid is pressurized, the micro-channel expands and changes the optical characteristics of the central zone. The pressure in the microchannel is controlled through changes to a reservoir disposed in the lens below the optic zone.

Contact lens blister packages and methods for automated inspection of hydrated contact lenses
Contact Lens Abstract
A contact lens package includes a base member including a cavity dimensioned to accommodate contact lens and a liquid therein. The combination of the cavity, the contact lens, and the liquid cooperate to collimate partially collimated light directed toward a bottom surface of the cavity. The cavity can be sealed by attaching a removable sealing member to the base member around the cavity. Methods of inspecting ophthalmic lenses using the present packages are also described.

Series of aspherical contact lenses
Contact Lens Abstract
The present invention provides a series of aspherical contact lenses, each lens having a first central optical zone on its anterior surface and a second central optical zone on its posterior surface. Both central optical zones are aspherical surfaces. The first central optical zone is designed to have a surface which provides a target optical power and an optical power profile selected from the group consisting of (1) a substantially constant optical power profile, (2) a power profile mimicking the optical power profile of a spherical lens with an identical targeted optical power, and (3) a power profile in which lens spherical aberration at 6 mm diameter is from about 0.65 diopter to about 1.8 diopters more negative than spherical aberration at 4 mm diameter.

Liquid diagnostic contact lens
Contact Lens Abstract
A liquid diagnostic contact lens includes a main body having a concave lens, and a supporting element disposed at a bottom of the main body. A heavy fluid is placed on a top surface of the concave lens. A transparent plate is sealed over the top surface of the concave lens so as to define an encapsulating room and encapsulate the heavy fluid therein. In operation, an ophthalmologist places the supporting element onto the eye, and examines various interior spots of the eye by adaptively adjusting the eye. The liquid diagnostic contact lens is tilted along with the eye and the top surface of the heavy fluid is kept horizontal so the heavy fluid is formed as prisms of different diopters. Thus, the liquid diagnostic contact lens can examine various spots of the interior of the eye.

Contact lens manipulation and cleaning apparatus
Contact Lens Abstract
The present invention provides apparatus for manipulating and cleaning of contact lenses, together with methods for same. The apparatus comprises at least one eyepiece, at least one body and a cleaning housing. The at least one eyepiece is attached to the at least one body and defines an opening in the body. The at least one eyepiece comprises a head for engaging a contact lens and an eyelid opening mechanism. The at least one body includes a contact tens manipulation device. The apparatus is arranged such that when the at least one eyepiece is attached to the body and the face of the user is in contact with the eyepiece, the eyelid opening mechanism engages the upper and lower eyelids to retain them open while a retractable mechanism removes the contact lens from the eye of the user. The cleaning housing is engageable with the eyepiece and can effectuate cleaning of the contact lens once removed from the eye of the user.

Method of cleaning contact lenses via sonication
Contact Lens Abstract
A process for cleaning all types of contact lenses by placing each contact lens in individual compartments of a liquid impermeable lens storage container filled with an aqueous medium such as sterile saline or sterile lens cleaning solution, floating the liquid impermeable storage container in an ultrasonic device operating at a frequency of 50-60 Hz and a wattage of 20-117 watts.

Therapeutic contact lens for pseudo-aphakic eyes and/or eyes with retinal neuro-degeneration
Contact Lens Abstract
The object of the invention is a contact lens for pseudo-aphakic eyes and/or eyes with macular and retinal degeneration, its main characteristic being the application of a yellow filter to a standard contact lens, with the purpose of protecting the eye from the short wavelength radiation of the visible spectrum (lower than 500 nm). This invention avoids the difficulties and risks of existing techniques, providing protection to the cataract-operated eye and improving natural protection in eyes with retinal neuro-degeneration, through the simple application of a contact lens. The invention consists of the combination of a standard contact lens and yellow filter, which absorbs short wavelengths of 350/500 nm, both its components being appropriate for use in the human eye.

Toric contact lenses with controlled optical power profile
Contact Lens Abstract
The present invention provides a toric contact lens having a controlled optical power profile. In addition, the invention provides a series of toric contact lenses, each having a series of different targeted cylindrical optical powers and a series of different targeted spherical optical powers, and each having a spherical aberration profile in which (1) the optical power deviations of the lens are substantially constant; (2) power deviation at a distance of 3 mm from the optical axis is from about -0.5 diopter to about -1.5 diopters; (3) power deviation at a distance of 3 mm from the optical axis is from about 0.2 diopter to about 1.0 diopter smaller than power deviations at a distance of 2 mm from the optical axis; or (4) there is a spherical aberration component described by any one of fourth order, sixth order, eighth order Zernike spherical aberration-like terms, or combination thereof, wherein the spherical aberration component has a value of -0.5 diopter to about -1.5 diopters at a distance of 3 mm from the optical axis.

Bifocal contact lens
Contact Lens Abstract
A contact lens having near vision and distance vision portions, the lens being movable on the eye between first and second positions, those positions corresponding with aligning the wearer’s vision through the near vision and distance vision portions respectively. The lens is positionally stable on the eye in each of the two positions, and requires a force to be applied to the lens to move between the first and second positions. Preferably the lens has a back surface and a front surface, and said back surface has either one or two major back curve zones occupying a major portion of the lens back surface.
